Calgary Materials Exchange
Assisting companies throughout Calgary to divert industrial, commercial and construction waste going to landfill.
Objective: Calgary Materials Exchange (CMEX) assists companies in finding alternative disposal options for operational waste. CMEX provides businesses in the industrial, commercial, institutional, construction and demolition sectors with the knowledge and tools required to reduce, reuse and recycle. CMEX meets the unique needs of your organization by providing one on one support to reach your waste diversion goals.
Services: The following services are available from CMEX:
Recommendations and referrals for waste diversion solutions (eg. recycler contact information).
Visual Waste Assessment – A facility tour to identify diversion opportunities and solutions.
Recycling Report – A comprehensive report to provide recommendations for implementing an effective recycling program and to quantify diversion initiatives. A calculation of ecological benefits achieved will be provided to members at the 1-year renewal date.
Waste Measurement Toolkit – A standardized methodology of waste measurement that quantifies the amount and composition of waste and diverted materials/ recyclables and creates a baseline summary to measure ongoing performance.

Website Exchange: Along with personal and direct services, an on-line exchange, http://www.cmex.ca will provide companies with a convenient medium to list materials and products that are available or wanted for exchange.
Green Measureables: CMEX will track your company’s reuse/recycle activities in terms of ecological benefits, eg. number of trees saved (coming soon!).
Website Recycling Directories: A convenient way to locate recycling companies in Calgary to help you with your waste diversion initiatives (coming soon!).
Fact Sheets and Guides: The CMEX team strives to give companies up to date information. Fact sheets have been created for various materials from fluorescent tubes to plastics to electronics to help companies understand the opportunities and barriers for specific items. Guides are more specific for certain areas such as ‘Green Building Guide’, ‘Waste Reduction for Events and Festivals’ and the ‘Guide to Reuse and Recycling’.
Workshops: CMEX hosts workshops to explore barriers and solutions for specific materials such as electronic waste, plastic and drywall. Workshops provide excellent networking opportunities to strengthen business relationships.
Education: CMEX offers a variety of presentations to help educate you and your staff. These can be done as part of a staff meeting, as a ‘Lunch and Learn’ or at any other time. An email will then be sent to confirm registration and provide you with your username and password for access to the CMEX website and your company’s account.
