An Opportunity to Contribute Financially to Clean Calgary Association’s Efforts

December 15, 2008

Clean Calgary Association is a unique non-profit, charitable organization that is making strides in the face of many environmental challenges. Despite the breadth of work that needs to be done, environmental organizations receive only 2% of donations. Please consider donating to Clean Calgary Association, and / or another environmental organization through Canada Helps so that together we can continue this important work.

In 2008, Clean Calgary Association provided environmental education, resources, and services to tens of thousands of Calgarians (and growing!) through

  • Courses and interactive presentations to schools, business, and other interested individuals;

  • Clean Calgary Association’s EcoStore (809 – 4th Ave.) where you’ll find hundreds of products that provide practical and fun environmental alternatives,

  • Customized services that help businesses and residents reduce their environmental impact; and

  • Extensive website resources (www.cleancalgary.org), newsletters, emails, and telephone calls.

Thank you to everyone who supports Clean Calgary Association by taking part in our programs, volunteering, shopping at the EcoStore, telling others about the resources we offer, making suggestions, purchasing memberships, giving grants and donations, and - so importantly - making changes in your own life! You are an integral part of the Clean Calgary community.  Happy holidays and New Year!

Christmas Tree Update

December 15, 2008

The EcoStore was very pleased with the overwhelming interest for locally-grown chemical-free Christmas Trees this year.  We sold out sooner than expected and had a waiting list of over 40 people long. Thank you to those on the waitlist for understanding that the tree lot was thinner this year than expected and the importance of keeping the lot sustainable for future years.

Please commit this year to keeping Christmas trees out of the landfill. The City of Calgary provides a Christmas Tree Mulching Program free of charge from December 27th to January 11th - there are many seasonal drop-off locations around Calgary as well as at the three City landfills.  Remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, plastic, and string. The resulting mulch is used in green spaces around Calgary and is available free of charge to residents. Download the list of Christmas tree drop-off locations here: Word document.

New Guide Series

July 17, 2008

Clean Calgary Association is pleased to present our Guide Series! Not only have the guides been updated they now have their own section on the website. The newest guide to the series is the “Green Cleaning Guide”. The original guide, the “Reuse and Recycling Guide” has received a face-lift by returning CCA staff member Ashley Lubyk. The idea and inspiration for the guides came from Ashley, currently the Coordinator of Waste Wise, and grew from the “Reuse and Recycling Guide” to include many topics submitted by different staff members. If you have a suggestion for a new guide, please email us at info@cleancalgary.org. Click here to visit the Guide section.
