Environmental Roundtable – Global Issues, Local Solutions
Students are led through an overview of global environmental issues and shown Calgary-specific examples and data. In small groups, students discuss topics such as biodiversity, over consumption and water quality. The groups will brainstorm solutions to the problem and share their ideas with the whole group. Surprisingly, many of the solutions are interconnected!
This dynamic presentation will cover:
- Global issues such as ecological footprint, over consumption and waste
- Root causes of global environmental issues
- Possible solutions to each problem
- And taking action as individuals and groups to make a difference
Target Audience:
- High School students (great for social studies or student conferences)
- Junior High (great for leadership classes or student conferences)
- One class per workshop for optimal learning achievement
Benefits of this workshop:
- Students will gain a greater understanding of the underlying issues contributing to environemntal problems
- Solutions to problems are brainstormed by students and collected to illustrate simple things we can do
- Environmental problems are shown as linked rather than seperate
- Students will be encouraged to assess their own practices and challenged to make lifestyle changes to reduce their impact at-home and in-school
How schools can participate:
Bookings are available through the Clean Calgary Association. The cost to the school for this workshop is $75 for the first class. Discounts available for multiple presentations on one day (not limited to the Environemntal Roundtable).
